Ingredients

Red lentils, coriander, red chili powder, black pepper, cumin, turmeric, mustard, fenugreek, compound asafoetida, ginger, salt.

Explanation ingredients

Coriander: the leaves have a lemony flavour, while the seeds have a slightly sweet, aniseed flavour.
Cumin: gives a nutty and peppery taste to dishes. Can be used in, for example, curry or chili.
Red lentils: legumes.
Turmeric: spice extracted from the roots Curcuma plant. It provides flavor and color in curry dishes.
Fenugreek: it is a plant of the legume family. The seeds can be used in salads, vegetable dishes or curry sauce, for example. It has its own specific taste.
Asafoetida: devil's dung (a herbaceous plant). It has a beneficial effect and promotes digestion. It is an alternative to using onion and/or garlic in dishes.
Ginger: has an intense pungent taste. Can be used in, for example, desserts, bread or biscuits. In India it is widely used with fish.

This product is packaged and / or stored in a company that also processes products containing wheat, nuts, peanuts, mustard, celery, gluten, sesame, shellfish, soy, sulphite, fish and molluscs. Despite all precautions, this product may contain traces of these allergens.

Storage advice

Store in a cool and dry place. After opening, transfer contents to an airtight container. The spice mix can be kept up to 2 years after production date.

Preparation

  1. Soak 160 grams of lentils in 250 milliliters of water and cook for 10 minutes in a pressure cooker.
  2. Keep it separate.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai or pan, add mustard seeds, onions, curry leaves and green chillies.
  4. Then add tomatoes and egg plants.
  5. Add Aachi Sambar powder, coriander leaves and 750 ml of water.
  6. Boil this for 10 minutes with the lid closed.
  7. Add tamarind juice, followed by the lentils and coriander leaves.
  8. Finally add salt.
  9. The sambar is ready to serve.
