Sakthi Sambar powder is one of South India's most coveted dishes. It is a soup dish made on the basis of lentils and vegetables.
Sakthi Sambar Powder is world famous for its authentic spice mix and is essential in making the most traditional sambar curry dish.
Ingredients
Coriander, chili, urad bean, fenugreek, salt, curry leaves, cumin, pepper, mustard, asafoetida, turmeric, ginger, toor dahl, chickpea, refined peanut oil.
Explanation Ingredients
Coriander: the leaves have a lemony flavour, while the seeds have a slightly sweet, aniseed flavour.
Urad beans: a type of legume.
Cumin: gives a nutty and peppery taste to dishes. Can be used in, for example, curry or chili.
Turmeric: spice extracted from the roots Curcuma plant. It provides flavor and color in curry dishes.
Fenugreek: it is a plant of the finder flower family. The seeds can be used in, for example, salads, vegetable dishes or curry sauce. It has its own specific flavor.
Asafoetida: devil's dung (a herbaceous plant). It has a beneficial effect and promotes digestion. It is an alternative to using onion and/or garlic in dishes.
Ginger: has an intense pungent taste. Can be used in, for example, desserts, bread or biscuits. In India it is widely used with fish.
Toor dahl: a type of lentil.

Storage advice
Store in a cool and dry place. After opening, transfer contents to an airtight container.
Preparation
- Boil 200 grams of lentils.
- Heat mustard seeds, sliced onion, green chilies and curry leaves in oil.
- Take 100 grams of sliced vegetables of your choice, 2 tomatoes, tamarind juice, 1 tablespoon of Sakthi Sambar Powder, salt to taste and cook this together with the cooked lentils for 15 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- The delicious sambar is now ready to be served.
After opening, store the rest of the spice mix in an airtight container and use a clean, dry spoon.
